How to Reach
By Air :- The only way to enter Sri Lanka is by air. Colombo is the international gateway for direct flights from Europe, Asia, Australia and the Middle East. There are several flights available between Colombo and Chennai, Trichy, Thiruvananthapuram and Mumbai.
There are no domestic passenger flights in Sri Lanka, thus the land transport is dominant. Train travel is more comfortable but slower. tourist places in india can arrange for local transportation for your comfortable journey in Sri Lanka and other neighboring countries of India. |
Money Currency
The Sri Lankan Currency is the rupee (Rs). divided into 100 cents. There re coins in denominations of five, 10, 25 and 50 cents and one, two, five and 10 rupees. Notes come in denominations of 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 rupees. Break down larger notes (Rs 500 or Rs 1000) when you change money as most vendors never seem to have change. Exceptionally dirty ortorn notes might not be accepted, except at a bank.

Pasport and Visa
Passport : You must have a passport with you all the time; it is the most basic travel document. Ensure that it will be valid for the entire period you intend to remain overseas.
Visa : Dozens of nationalities, including Australians, New Zealender, North Americans and Virtually all Europeaons, receive a tourist visa upon entry valid for 30 dyas. It is sometimes possible to obtain a visa for longer than 30 days in your home country; this is more often the case at sri Lanka's bigger overseas missions, in London and Washington.

Best Time to Visit
Sri Lanka is a round-the-year destination. the best time to visit the island is from November to April. The Southwestern coastal area (where most of the beach resorts are located) gets the monsoon rains from the end of May to October. The central highlands are pleasantly cool and relatively dry from January to April. The peak season is mid December to mid January and March-April during Easter. |
